I like this question very much, because I have learned how to do devotional service in real time every day to the Lord. It’s an alternative to daily sitting in lotus position and meditating, of which I must admit is not that attractive to me, being a restless Aries.

I have been 100& committed to doing early morning puja (devotional service) for over 30 years now. Puja is offering things to the Lord each day, such as a cup of water, a leaf, a bowl of nuts, some raisins, a flower (which HE loves the most). Buy a picture of Jesus in a Christian store or Buddha or Krishna or Vishnu or Laksmi – whomever you call the Lord, and set it up in the living room/bedroom with a small little “curtain” on it to cover HIM at night.

After you offer the picture, HIS morning drink of water, light up the incense and offer that to Him and set it down. Then offer him a small flower (even a fake silk one will work). Ask for His protection that day and ask for any help you need for that day. Be it money troubles, relationship trouble, parental trouble , job search trouble, health trouble – you get the gist. Ask Him for help early in the morning softly but in your real relaxed voice. HE is especially kind and your greatest well wisher and your most dearest loving friend. Trust that He is very real and can hear you. Don’t think that He has too many others praying to Him that He’ll never hear you or get to your troubles. Why wouldn’t a loving, caring, nurturing Lord help you if you sincerely and non offensively ask for his Help? this is devotional service to the Lord. Developing a very intimate, surrender to Him. Let Him know you made a mistake and need Him again. And most of all – you have remembered Him again. This is what I am 100& committed to – understanding that I am the servant and He is the Lord. And although meditation can get you to the external effulgence of the Lord, why not take it a step further and get to Him intimately thru devotional serviceand meditation.
