Try to Grasp that All Animals are as Much a Part of God as You are. As You Consider This, What Happens Inside of Yourself?

• How might you treat animals differently with this understanding?

If God is everything, it behooves us to not just intellectualize this reality but embody it, embrace it, and seek out every area of human life — and non-human life — in which to integrate it. For if we are to realize the prize of unity with our Source, we can’t leave any stone — or insect — unturned.

If we see all as God, as our Self, we would treat all life with absolute reverence. The Native Americans are well known for praying for the animal they needed to kill to survive. They had reverence for the life they were taking in order to feed their families.

Life is life — whether in a cat or dog or man. There is no difference there between a cat or a man. The idea of difference is a human conception for man’s own advantage. ~ Sri Aurobindo
