To Truly Apply Spiritual Principles to Our Lives, We May Feel a Little Awkward. What are Some Times in Your Life When You Realized Something that was Far Different From Conventional Thought?

  • How did you feel?
  • What are some times in your life when you have felt compelled out of truth to live differently from societal norms?
  • What did you do?
  • How did it feel?
  • Did you get used to it?

We all know that Reality isn’t always what it appears to be.  For example, lakes and oceans are not blue; water is colorless. Water’s blue appearance is the reflection of the sky upon the water. Even more, the sky isn’t even blue. The light from the sun is actually a rainbow of colors. The sky appears blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light.

For a century, scientists have been demonstrating that reality is not what it appears to be. Without an electron microscope we wouldn’t know that all things physical are made up of atoms, or that each atom consists almost entirely of space. And if an atom is almost entirely made of nothing, with a few electrons or so floating within it, what is supporting it?

Our good old friends the mystics and saints have been declaring that reality isn’t what it appears to be for millennia. And as they inform us, we cannot realize that God is the Doer without the microscope of meditation.
