If the Word “God” Makes You Uncomfortable, or Offends You, What Word Would You Like to Sustitute for “God”?

A few possibilities include Oneness, Source, Tao, Cosmos, Goddess, Allah, Divine Mother, Love, Universe, or Is-ness

There are many ways to celebrate – and refer to – the Great Miracle

Holy Crap is not about proving that God exists or asserting one religion over another. It’s respectful of all-faiths and spiritual belief systems.  In my blogs, I will be laying out spiritual principles that are universal in nature, meaning that the root of the principle can be found in many religions, mysticisms, and cultures.  With Holy Crap, you can wholeheartedly honor your own particular religion, your agnosticism or even your atheism.  Adapt the universal principles in any way you wish to your own viewpoint.

Similarly, please don’t get hung up on the words “God” or “God-Consciousness.” If these words don’t fit your ideology, don’t get tripped up. Insert whatever word feels best to you like “Goddess,” “Source,” “Mother,” “Tao,” “Cosmos,” “Allah,” “Love,” “Universe,” “Oneness” — create a word that fits for you. And though they have slightly different meanings, I will interchange the words enlightenment, God-consciousness, self-realization, and nirvana, not because they are right, but because they fit for me.

I don’t levitate. I don’t materialize things in my hands. I have not yet attained nirvana. I’m a guy who’s been meditating for many years, trying to transform a whole lotta crap, by consciously living spiritual principles in every opportunity I get. What follows are some of the things I’ve learned in my efforts to remain aware of the miracle of all-that-is while holding down a job and raising a family.

Thanks for joining me.

  1. On the path says:

I've had a hard time with the word "God" for a long time. For me, it always seemed to conjure up the great-grandfather-figure in the sky. Some of the descriptions that fit best for me are "source of all creation", "the miracle", "the is-ness", "the mystery" and, maybe my favorite, "love".

  2. On the road again says:

How does one name the unfathomable? I know in my heart what "god" is but I cannot put this concept in words.

    • Johanna says:

God is not a “concept”, conjured up by human beings trying to “guess’ what He is like. He is a person, a real living breathing person whom we look just like. The human being is the closest thing to physically look like “God”. He has two arms, a gorgeous youthful transcendental body, which never rots, decays or grows old. He has the look of a 16-17 yr old boy!!!!!!

  3. Ginny says:

I don’t usually use the word god because it seems to always be associated with Christian religion. To me god is not Christian or any other organization . God is all things – the creating source or force or energy of all .

  4. Victoria says:

God is Great! I also feel connection to all references that connect to the Source greater than our understanding that connects us, provides and teaches us when we approach one another and life with an open, loving heart.
